Lake Mead Recreational Area is a lovely
area that was taken by the Park Service (as well as other agencies)
in order to protect and survey the area. It is not immediately clear
how many business were bought out or taken but it is clear quite a
lot of business used to go on here but not anymore. One exception is
the Lake Mead RV campsite and I don't know how they managed to keep
their little spot but I love it. The area is absolutely gorgeous and
in order to stay there, one must pay the $25 entry fee at the park
gate or have a senior citizen pass. This place is worth every penny
and the camping fee is about $35 a night with a great bathhouse with
showers, wifi and pull through sites. Take a look at the view!
This was the perfect stopping off place
to go to Las Vegas – about 30 minutes away or to the Hoover Dam
about 10 minutes. Inside the recreational area there is much to see
and do including a paved bike path and a ghost town as well as just
kicking back and enjoying the view of the lake. More about the ghost
town in another blog but this one is about Vegas and the RV camp
itself.
Buddy always wanted to see Vegas – I
am not a city slicker – my night life consists of watching the
stars in the sky but I understand the want to see Vegas. He wanted to
see where Pawn Stars is filmed as well as Counting Cars. I knew there
would be things that would disappoint but also things that would
impress – so off he went. Plug the address into Garmin and less
than 30 minutes later, Buddy sees Vegas!
It was clear this day but a few days
later he talked me into going with him to fetch some more souvenirs
and it was very hazy!
And a building where there is an
octopus ride on top of the building. Not for me. My goodness – the
person is dangled over the side of the building and rotated. This
sounds like torture not so much fun!?
Have to see the cars first so it was
off to Counts Kustom. Of course no one from the show was there but
you are allowed to wander around the showroom and take all the
pictures you want. Here ya go.
The above is my personal favorite. Lot of time and effort had to go into that. Below is Rolis' little car.
Horny Mike's motorcycle.
On to where Pawn Stars is filmed.....take a look at Rick...(cardboard
cutout – ha!)
And that is the RV camp and Vegas – I
hated leaving this one – this park knocks it out of the park –
quiet, beautiful but close to the city. Amazing. You have to pay a
small fee for good wifi – so so wifi is free. I would still give it
an excellent rating – it redefines excellent. If you pull a camper
to Vegas – stay here! I understand there are permanent trailers
here one can even rent if you don't bring an RV – we may look into
that. It was dry and warm and I loved it. A crowbar had to be used to
get me to leave!
On the outskirts of Vegas is Coyote
Canyon that stands as a ghost town – there is a golf course useless
because it has no water and no real estate has or can be sold because
there is no water rites.
Leaving there was a beautiful moon
above the mountains – Enjoy!
