Cave Lake State Park Nevada

If you think Nevada is only about gambling and dry land, think again and you will be in for a wonderful surprise. On the way to City of Rocks National Reserve Idaho, we camped at Cave Lake State Park near Ely Nevada which is in the far eastern middle side of the state. There is nothing really around so be sure you fill up before stepping out into the great countryside of Nevada.

It is a 32 acre lake stocked with eager to bite trout. There is no cave but there are some small caverns before entering the park. Camping is incredibly cheap here - it cost us $17 for an out of state overnight camp site that while it did not include electricity, it did include a full service bath house with wonderfully hot showers and a very quiet nights sleep. Take a look.

Below is late afternoon across the lake. Buddy caught a few fish here - but threw them back.
The view from the campsite. Elevation at the campsite is about 7000 feet. The campsite was not cold despite the snow you see on the mountain tops.
 Morning view across the lake.

We were visited by ducks.
The dog paid no attention to the ducks nor these little ground squirrels.

We stayed only a night since we were on our way to City of Rocks Idaho but it was a wonderful time here and a very fine park. If you are in the area, consider a Nevada state park - this one was outstanding.
I leave you with these two odd shots - coming from Ely Nevada there is Blue Lake Utah that is a testing ground for the military visible in the distance. Near here there is a bridge overpass for pedestrian traffic - odd thing is there is none - no people here anywhere yet here sits the bridge. Odd.
Next up is City of Rocks National Reserve and Castlerock State Park Idaho. Idaho is surprising...
